Interesting Fallow Hunting Information:

  • These elegant spotted deer date back to the 1660’s in Ireland. Often considered the only Old-World deer with flat antlers.
  • The uniqueness of the Fallow lies in the four different color variations “common”, “menil”, “melanistic” and “leucistic”.  However, the unique palmation shape of the horns is common across the species.
  • Like Elk, a Fallow Deer rut can be just as fascinating to witness as the bucks use their methods to court with females similar to bull elk by waving its antlers and vocalizing loudly with each dip of its antlers, barking and using the scent of their urine to attract females.  Female’s trying to leave a bucks territory may be blocked by the buck, who moves with exaggerated, dancelike steps.
  • Gestation: about 7 months producing 1 young a year.
  • Lifespan: 12-16 years
