A Scimitar hunt at the Covered S Ranch will be a spot & stalk hunt for the bow & rifle hunter within the 3,000-acre Flat Top Mesa game preserve. They are a tough, skittish, and elusive animal to hunt.

Interesting Scimitar-Horned Oryx Information:

  • Scimitar-horned Oryx are a medium-sized antelope of the Oryx species that are accustomed to the harshest desert regions of Africa, primarily the Sahara Desert.
  • Scimitar can tolerate an internal body temperature of 116 degrees to avoid sweating and losing water therefore, allowing them to go for long durations without water.
  • They are mostly white with reddish-brown markings with long horns that curve backward. Both male & females have horns. The females will typically have a longer/narrower set of horns.
  • Gestation: 8-10 months
  • Lifespan: 18-20 years
